Final Script

Script

I can know to start my planning. However, I do not need to do any research on storyboards, shot lists, Call sheets, production schedules, location shots, location recces and risk assessments as i have already done research of these in the past. I can now get into my most interesting imagination sequence which is the last question the gunshot effect.

Asking my audience what imagination sequences they want.

I asked my Target audience what action sequence they liked best as i didn’t just want to go with the ones that i like.

Question:

Options:

screen-shot-2019-06-03-at-15.02.49.png

They went up to Effect H

Answers:

screen-shot-2019-06-03-at-15.01.50.png

My target audience wants the exact effects that i wanted. However, I only got 3 top once when i really needed 4 so i might use Effect B twice and create two different effects that have the same idea. now i am going to create my question to go with the effects that i have chosen.

Imagination Sequence Ideas

Here are some effects that i know i can recreate. This is impotent because i need to no what effects i can do and then wrap a story around them (This is relating to my script research where i talk about ”write the scenes that are most interesting to you first”) This will make it easier than creating the story than adding the effects afterwards.

Here are some Effects I have in mind (I only need to use 4):

Useful green screen tip with the secondary colour tab.

I could have this shot after a question like ”What do you like doing in your spar time?” Or ”Do you have any hobbies?”

The VFX artist uses a camera tracker plugin that works so much better than the built in After Effects effect. This will be useful if i need to track the whole scene.

I could use this effect in my short film but have it

Now i must ask my audience what effects they like the most so that i can then pick the top four and use them in my short film. Theni can start creating questions that suits the effects chosen.

3: Developing my idea

From my ‘Face to Face‘ blog having my interviewer grumpy and lazy at the start of the interview then as the imagination sequences happen the interviewer starts to realise what he is saying and then by the end of the interview he will be shocked but confused at the same time. This leads to my next new point to my idea.

From my ‘Short Film inspiration‘ blog i am using my time travelling cliff hanger at the end as this makes my short film stand out from the amateur short films.

Time travel segment explained:

The interviewee is going to walk into the interview room laughing and grinning. This will put the thought in your head why is he laughing?. Then (fast forward to the end of the short film). The interviewee answers the last question and the dream sequence is going to be really violent and realistic. the interviewer is obviously going to be shocked because he wasn’t expecting an answer like that. Then the short film will cut to the first few seconds of the short film where he is walking into the interviewer’s room laughing. As if he has been going back in time and trying to answer the questions to impress the interviewee so he can get the job. He could also use something that he physically used to go back in time like a phone. (The question and then the following imagination sequence will happen 4 times with different questions and imaginations each time. Once the interviewer clicks into what he is actually thinking about and saying the interviewee will go back in time. Thus creating a loop. This is why i was four shadowings right at the start of the interviewee laughing) I might then have the same shot from the start and place it right at the end so that the viewer will definitely no that this is an infinite loop.

I now know about 60% of my short film and what will happen throughout the whole thing. So I am going to look into some locations on where i can film my interview segment then once that is out the way i can start on my imagination sequences.

Mythologies of Violence in Postmodern Media (eBook)

I wanted to get more ideas on what i should do in my imagination sequences. This book ‘Mythologies of Violence in Postmodern Media’ has lots of useful tips and tricks on the Action genre.

This is saying that male audiences prefer a more masculine film than a feminine film. This is interesting because I thought that men would prefer a woman in movies. This work the opposite if it was a woman audience, they prefer more feminine movies rather than masculine. If i was making a romantic comedy short film I would have most of my characters and the main character female as women prefer this. With this information, I am going to make my action scenes have a male in throughout, as the Action genre is more related to men.

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 13.11.22

This is saying that physical strength and dexterity is common in Action films. This is interesting to me because I didn’t no that most Action films had these things in them. This is related to the other paragraph above how Action films have a target audience as men because we look up to strong powerful male protagonists and we want to be like them, that’s why we watch these movies. I am going to follow this information by having a strong powerful male protagonist in m short film. However, because my short film is a comedy action i might flip the table and have the complete opposite. Have a small scrawny main character but make him do cool things like in the stereotypical Action films. This will also make the Comedy side of my short film shine with the Action genre.

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 15.18.24.png

This saying that you should view Action Films as serious and real. This is because if you do this you will enjoy the movie a lot more because Action Films tend to be visually pleasing to look at and be impossible to do in real life. This is enjoyable for a lot of people because they know that they will never be able to perform like the characters in the movies that’s why Action Films are really popular. I am now going to reflect back on my previous blogs so that i can go back to them and take all my research and link it to my planning stages once i get to them.

Audiance feedback – Action and Comedy genres

I created a questionnaire asking people different questions about what the Action and Comedy genres. The data is from a wide range of people, this is so my data will not be biased. This data will help me get an idea on what people want to see in my short film/skit because when i follow the info i have collected i will then ab able to make a short film that everyone will like. This will help me decide on how my two main characters to respond to each other.

Question 1:

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 09.52.11.png

In this question, I wanted to find out how much gore people preferred in Action movies. The results were surprising to me as I thought people would have wanted a lot of gore. However, the majority of people liked gore but not too much as that might turn the Action genre into a Thriller or Horror. With this data, I will make the short film/skit have gore in it but not too graphic so that the viewers don’t feel scared.

Question 2:

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 09.52.17.png

I didn’t know what to expect when writing this question. I Would have chosen 3 if i was given this question as I like Comedy’s but would not like there to be a joke every 5 seconds. The majority of people agreed with me as they to prefer jokes in comedy’s every so often. However thinking about this because it is a short film/skit I might have to make the jokes quite frequency to keep the viewers interested, although I won’t go overboard with them. These jokes don’t have to be spoken it can be anything from facial expressions to anything physical.  will be keeping this in mind when planning the project

Question 3:

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 09.52.23.png

These options had images to them however don’t show in the screenshot. Cinematic got the most votes and realistic came close. With this in mind, i am going to make the interview look realistic and have the flashbacks/memories look cinematic. This will also enhance the comedy and action genre.

Question 4:

Screen Shot 2019-03-15 at 09.52.28.png

The results from this question whereas I expected. Comedy movies are funnier if they are close to real life. This is because a lot more people can relate to the situation or joke that has been said or performed.

Question 5:

Screen Shot 2019-03-01 at 14.56.15.png

No one answered this question which was upsetting but it was optional.

i know now that my audience would like my imagination sequences to be gory. I also now that my audience would like my two main characters to be realistic and relatable. So I am going to look at a film or documentary about two personalities that bounce of each other as i must have this in my short film as this is what is going to make the comedy aspect shine.

Finding my Target Audience

I now have my basic idea down for my short film and I am now going to find out what my target audience is by looking at and Acting and Comedy genre (as this is my short film) and see what people say about them, gender, overall rating ext…

I went onto IMDB and had a look at films wherein the Action and Comedy genres. Hera Pheri, Sherlock Jr and Gangs of Wasseypur are the topmost rated IMDB films on the site. This is a great opportunity for me to film what my audience likes the most in this area. With this information, i can add it into my short film so that my target audience will enjoy it more.

Here’s What I found

With this information i found out that my target audience is: Male, 18-26 and not from the US. I figured this out on the people that gave the highest rating to the film because these people would have enjoyed the film the most.

Now obviously women are allowed to watch my short film and anyone older then 16 as there is some gore shown. However, as a whole this audience is what i am going to be targeting as these people enjoy watching them the most.

Hera Pheri

The reviews talk about how amazing the actors show the emoting and there journey through the story. They also talk about how story is impact full and in the Action Comedy genre are highly focused on story and emotion. From my developing my idea blog I know that my short film will evolve an interview. With this in mind i want t have emotion evolved with the two main characters. Maybe have them both clash personalities or have one of them not like the other character at all. This will enhance the comedy side of the short film because of this clash.

Sherlock Jr.

From these reviews i found out that having a film have a simple story/journey makes it easier for the audience to figure out whats going on and help them understand the jokes and so called funny bits. This is very good as I am going on the right track with my short film as my story/journey is simple and easy to understand. From my interview to the effects adding in-between its all easy to understand.

Gangs of Wasseypur

These reviews really enjoy the fast that there was a so called cliff hanger at the end of the film. The audience was left wondering what would happen next and leave them wanting to know what will happen next. This is such a good way to end any sort of film, whether that is is any genre not just Action and Comedy. I am going to leave a cliff hanger at the end of my short film as this is what my audience prefers and enjoys the most. This was in my idea as i want to have the cliff hanger be that the interviewee time travels in at the end.

I have most on my interview segments down i want to create my interview question now, just so i know what all teh question will sound like.
